Basic Copywriting Techniques For Beginners

Selling online can be done if you have a website and content that others cannot ignore. However, you have to learn how to capture a prospect’s attention immediately after your website loads on his browser. Effective copy writing will do that for you.

Copy writing is a sales tool that most marketers wield. Web content writing is different from a “copy” because the latter is used to sell things online. Some marketers who have mastered the skill of copy writing are now earning thousands. Copy writing is not a talent that is in-born, you can easily develop it using a few strategies.

Basic Copy writing Strategies for Beginner Marketers

1. Create a Compelling Headline

The headline is the title of your page. Your headline must zero in on what the prospect needs. You can create a great headline if you know exactly how your products or services are going to make your prospects’ lives better.

2. Push the Right Emotional Buttons

Don’t ever beg someone to buy from you. That’s not what I mean by “getting them to be emotional”. Touch their emotions by letting your copy reflect what’s on their mind.

When a person buys something on a whim, it means a particularly strong emotion is driving him. For example, if you’re selling a finance book, touch on the prospect’s burning need to retire early, have all the things that money can buy, or get rid of his mountains of debt. Emotional buying is one of the major reasons why the eskimo bought a truckload of ice from the shrews salesman.

3. Make the Person Feel You’re Talking to Him Alone

. Pretend you’re talking to a friend when you write your copy. They need to develop rapport with you as soon as they start reading and scrolling down. You want them to feel like fate brought them to your webpagel; like it was written just for them.

People will not stop long enough to read your copy if there’s no benefit in doing so. People want to know that’s in it for them, so you have to be as personal as possible by using reactive language.

4. Speak from Experience

This is the most important tip of all. Get to know your audience intimately. What is their most desperate wish? Does your copy provide a solution to their aches? Understanding your audience will help you create an emotional and powerful copy directed specifically at your audience.

For example, a woman never wants to be called a middle-aged woman just by her looks. A mom is almost in tears because she can’t potty train her kids. A father feels useless if he cannot fix his crying son’s xbox. These people with real problems are online looking for solutions. YOU provide the answer and land a sale.
