best business strategy books

How do I successfully grasp information while reading a strategy book?
When I read any book but specifically business strategy books I grasp the concepts and understand the ideas but will I need to take notes of certain steps and tips to apply them in the future or will just understanding what I read allow me to apply those strategies later?
I would like to recall details from what I read without having to look at notes. Like If I have a conversation with someone I would like to be able to recite parts of what I read without referring to notes.
Read the book jacket, first lines of chapters, Cliff notes AND most effectively, write a review of the book using quotes that you actually write down (or type). For me, writing = remembering. Specifically strategies – business, political, or personal improvement. Repetition, and actually believing in what you are saying, improves you ability to recall information.
When having a conversation, you can speak knowledgeably about what you have studied as long as your quote is basically accurate – no one (except maybe a lawyer) is going to go look up the quote and then take the trouble to correct you on a word or two. Remember how we all laughed about the long conversation on the “real meaning of the word IS” – -
