Why should we feel inclined to save the health insurance companies?

There have been a lot of Chamber of Commerce ads that seem to be trying to appeal to common people to prevent a public health insurance option from being realized because it will put private health insurance companies out of business. Besides the “because I work for them” argument, why should we care about private health insurance companies being put out of business? What good do they ultimately serve besides the need to make a profit for shareholders? What are some arguments for saving these companies that profit from refusing to provide care to some of the customers who actually paid their premiums?

For the record, I’m from Canada and used their healthcare system just fine, and I am now currently under CIGNA and working as a CPA in the US and it’s been okay so far with them as well.
For those who say I should go back to Canada…why should I? I also fought for your country in the US Army during the war your president started. Where were you?

We owe the insurance companies NOTHING –

The insurance industry has been ripping this country off for decades now. They probably feel as if this is their duty by this time.

Republicans have safeguarded the insurance company profits every step of the way – why? – payola, Insurance companies have bought everybody in the House and Senate at one time or another.

And republicans have always been their most obedient servants.
