How many times has someone told you there are no guarantees in life? Probably more times than you care to remember. It’s understandable though, being the insecure mammals that we are, that our instinctive nature compels us to seek out the safest routes to getting whatever it is we wish to acquire or achieve. But as in economics, as well as most aspects of life: the lower the risk… the lower the payoff. Yeah ‘life’ (you’ve also heard millions of times before) can also be totally unfair. So what can you do about it, if anything? Well, as we say in the gambling world, “Deal with it.”
The pursuit of happiness
Without risk there would be no such thing as gambling and without gambling I’d be out of a job and you wouldn’t be reading this article and getting wiser with each word. Hell, we could be racking up mega-more hours watching TV all day and all night instead. But again, life simply isn’t fair.
Risk exists everywhere and it’s that very “if” factor that makes taking chances so exciting and eternally attractive. While some folks contend that gambling is only fun if you win, the facts of the matter do not support this assertion. Indeed if it were true, most gamblers would have stopped wagering a long, long time ago after losing enough money. But instead, gambling ¬– whether it’s on online casino games, poker, bingo, horses, or sports matches etc. – lives on and shall continue to do so as long as people continue to pursue the pleasures associated with gambling.
Throw caution to the winnings
These ‘pleasures’ can often be much more than just cash winnings. Loads of gambling enthusiasts venture off to land-based as well as online casinos primarily to socialize with other like-minded gamblin’ folk. Increasingly more Internet gaming sites are now offering their players the luxury of real-time live chat with a variety of games. For some players, it’s the bright dazzling colors and party atmosphere that keeps them coming back for more. For others, just breaking even or losing perhaps some money after hours of action-packed bliss is more than a fair price to pay for feeling good. Really good!
The cost of lost opportunity
Whenever you decide to go ahead with a particular opportunity – be it in business, love, or of course gambling – you risk missing out on perhaps better opportunities available. This is widely known as ‘the cost of lost opportunity.” And of course there’s always the risk one assumes when opting not to take any chance at all.
