what has to go into a business plan/proposal?

I am currently doing a Mgmt Internship, I have to come up with a business proposal, I am supposed to be trying to get my college to offer a summer camp for managment, what type of format would you go with? (they are seriously considering this and will take my ideas into account) table of contents? What different aspects would you put into it? Thanks!

A business plan is an internal document for how you want to sustain or grow your business. A business proposal is an external sales document used to create new business.

Your business plan should firstly set out the goals and mission for your company – usually for the following twelve months. Update it every three months or so. It doesn’t have to be a long document, but give some thoughts to realistic targets and how you are going to achieve them. Consider any risks or threats and what you can do to counter them.

It gets a little bit more specific if you are trying to write a business plan for angel or venture funding – they want to know additional bits of information such as company valuations and how you are going to include new investors etc.

A business proposal is usually for a client, though can be for grant funding. What is the business need and what are you going to do to provide a solution that meets that need. Persuade the client by showing providing a solution and backing it up with evidence that you can deliver. Solution + credibility + value = persuasion. Be credible in your price as well as reputation.

With grant funding there are usually guidelines published about how to respond and usually someone in the fundigin organisation is available to guide your through it to a certain extent.

A business plan should prove that your business will generate enough revenue to cover your expenses and make a satisfactory return for bankers or investors.

* Executive Summary – features the highlights of your plan and sells your idea in two pages or less.
* Company Summary – a factual description of your company, ownership, and history.
* Products (or Services or both) – describes your products and/or services and how they stand out from competitive products and services.
* Market Analysis – provides a summary of your typical customers, competitive landscape, market size, and expected market growth.
* Strategy and Implementation – describes how you will sell your product, how you will put your plan into action, and establishes milestones.
* Management Summary – provides background on the management team, their experiences, and key accomplishments.
* Financial Plan-contains key financials including sales, cash flow, and profits.

A business proposal is to persuade a client and demonstrates the benefits of your solution and you credibility in delivering it.
