design business review
I have a new web site for my business, I have paid to have my web page constructed. Does it make sense to you?

I have new product that I sell on line. I paid to have my web page constructed. If anyone knows anything about web pages, could you please review my site and page and let me know if it is easy to understand. Sometimes I think that I get too close to the product and need to know if someone who knows nothing about Design Plan In A Can can get the inforation they need from the site. Is it self explainitory? Do you understand the product? Could it be laid out in a simpler way? I am no expert and want to make sure that it is an effective site.. Any thoughts or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. My web site is www.designplaninacan.com

Wow – that is a REALLY busy home page. It also isn’t framed or tabled in such a way. You really want the home page to be sort of a brief explanation without being to gunked up so the person viewing it is overloaded.

I would actually see if the person making your site could make it so:

A. You don’t have to scroll left-right or top-bottom on the home page. Its fine in the content but not on the home page which is your first impression.
B. Limit the art and pictures. Too much can be confusing.
C. Take the Call to order bit and put it either in the header or the footer.
D. Limit the menus – looks like you have 4 or 5 going on. No one will know which is which. You can use a top menu, like you have for the main categories and a side bar for ideas and services.
E. The corporate stuff on the right hand side, make that like an affiliate page or something or spread them out through the site. Use something like an Ad Rotator (ASP.NET has a nice tool for that but I’m sure there’s a PHP or ASP serverlet you can get for free.)

The colors are good – they are very consistent and work well together, I just think you have WAY too much on the home page and its going to confuse the buyer. Put the pertinent stuff up front (on the home page) and then spread everything else out through the site.
