Accent-Reduction Specialist. WTF?!?

Accent-Reduction Specialist: Accent and speech training is no longer just a need for anchormen and actors. According to U.S. News and World Report, accent-reduction specialist is the number one best-kept-secret career. Many businesses today deal with contacts around the country and the world. Corporations increasingly need accent-reduction specialists to train employees (from phone representatives in India to corporate managers in Alabama) in unaffected speech.

I thought the US was the Melting Pot & we were suppose to be proud of our hertitage not so ashamed that we’d go to a speech therapist to wash away our accents. Or is just Indian accents & Southern Twangs that we’re ashamed of?

I personally think it’s very annoying to call customer service from a USA phone and not be able to communicate with the person on the other end because they don’t speak very good english or the accent is so heavy you can’t understand them. I think depending on the type of business you will be conducting, that this is a needed service by far. But I still rather talk to someone I don’t understand, than a darn computer voice that will not listen to what I am saying Can’t win for trying. Only in the US do we have drive thru atm’s with braille now that is a WTF!
